DION AGIUS – The Backside Flip


Flips are probably the hardest move in surfing right now and it’s even harder to find a good section to nail one on. This session at Keramas was perfect for it. You need a really bowly wave and a light wind to launch up and over.

To start off you want to draw out a big long bottom turn so that by the time you get to the lip you are coming up at it vertical. Eye off your section and try to hit it right before the lip is starting to pitch. As you are about to leave the wave completely with your back and top of your board facing the beach, you really want to concentrate on grabbing both rails. That’s one of the hardest parts.

Once you have the grab you are halfway there. Then you are going to want to look over your shoulder towards the beach and this will bring your body and your board in that direction as well. Once you have begun rotating you have to decide whether the landing is going to be too gnarly to land. If so, bail out. It’s not worth breaking a leg for.

If you have spotted an ok looking landing zone, it’s time to really pull that flip around and hold on tight. It’s easier to hold the grab once you have made contact with the wave and hold on until you make it, but it looks a lot better to let go earlier before you make contact with the wave. Once you have made the flip, run to the beach, skull a Bintang and head to Embargo, its party time!!

- Ambil posisi yang baik sebelum melakukan gerakan ‘lean back’ atau yang saya katakana gaya ‘tidur’.
- Dimulai dengan persiapan bottom turn, kemudian ambil posisi tubuh condong ke belakang untuk persiapan sebelum kita ‘tidur’ diatas ombak.
- Tendang bagian belakang papan hingga posisinya menghadap ke depan ombak atau 180 derajat.
- Saat menendang bagian belakang papan secara otomatis kita akan menjatuhkan badan ke belakang sampai posisi ‘tertidur’ dan kaki depan bersiap menahan tumpuan tubuh ketika ‘tertidur’ diatas ombak.
- Nikmati momen tersebut sambil menggunakan dorongan ombak dan bersiaplah untuk kembali berdiri untuk menyempurnakan gaya “tidur” diatas ombak ini.


MUSTOFA JEKSON - Air Reverse
- Kita harus memiliki speed.
- Ketika take off posisi bottom turn, kita harus sangat mendekati air.
- Usahakan keseimbangan tubuh untuk menabrak lip ombak.
- Setelah menabrak lip ombak, usahakan untuk memegang papan agar enggak terlepas dari dorongan ombak.
- Saat badan berputar posisi kuda-kuda, posisikan tubuh sedikit berjongkok, agar speed enggak berkurang untuk melakukan trik selanjutnya.
