Ellie Lovett was in Nias awhile back, a place she loves to visit and also one that her father Kevin and friends are known to have first surfed in the 1970s. As the rains in Bali started to pour, Ellie brought over a collection of photos from Nias of the local surfers ripping the wave they grew up at to shreds. Clearly the level of surfing is now up to par with the quality of the wave itself and some of the locals, like many other Indonesian surfers, are considering careers based on riding waves.

Justin Buulolo is one of these locals who was visiting Bali recently to check out the waves and competition possibilities. Justin is not just a talented surfer but also an enthusiastic photographer, snapping nice pictures of his friends and waves on Nias. Ellie put Justin in touch with Surf Time and shortly after a story on the Nias crew started to materialize. In this feature on the Nias surf scene, Justin introduces us to the personalities that call the famous barreling right home.
